TORONTO -- Given the injuries that have plagued the Toronto Maple Leafs, Nazem Kadri is just glad its not a lockout-shortened season.

. Kadris back from a one-game absence to attend his grandfathers funeral, but when the Leafs take the ice Thursday night against the Dallas Stars, they will be without centre Tyler Bozak and enforcer Colton Orr. Bozak will be out "an extended period of time" with an oblique strain, coach Randy Carlyle said. Bozak, who was placed on injured reserve, suffered the injury in Tuesday nights loss to the San Jose Sharks. Orr had a "procedure" on a bursa sac in his elbow, according to Carlyle. Star winger Phil Kessel will play despite leaving practice Wednesday with an undisclosed injury, Carlyle said. Kessel hasnt missed a game the past three-plus seasons, and Kadri called him the teams "iron man." "Thats a tribute to the player," Carlyle added. "He finds ways to get through the game and get through practice and get himself ready for the rigours of playing an NHL season. Those are things that wed like (from) every player on our team." But the Leafs dont have that. With Bozak and Orr out, the Leafs recalled Jerry DAmigo from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, and Carlyle called the winger an "option" to play against Dallas. "They need a spark, and hopefully I can be that spark," DAmigo said. Whether Amigo plays or not, Leafs will again have several holes in their lineup. Winger Joffrey Lupul is out with a groin injury, while centre Dave Bolland still hasnt resumed skating after suffering a severed tendon in his ankle in late October. "One of the adjustments to make when guys go down, you kind of change your game plan up a little bit," Kadri said. Carlyle chafed Thursday morning at continued discussion of injured players. His focus is on the players available to him. "The way we have to shift it is, the focus has to go on the players that are playing, not the players that arent playing," Carlyle said. "We cant change that. Thats our job and thats our mandate for our coaching staff is to focus on the things that we have control over, and thats what we have control over."

. The move is retroactive to Aug. 1. Hosmer was originally hit on the hand in the first inning of a July 20 loss to Boston. He has played most of the time since, but missed a few contests due to the injury, then departed Thursdays win over the Twins and had tests that revealed the fracture.LAKE LOUISE, Alta. - Lindsey Vonn left Lake Louise with both confidence and the belief she can ski faster. After winning her first downhill in almost two years, the U.S. star was a second behind winner Lara Gut of Switzerland in Sundays World Cup super-G. World Cup overall leader Tina Maze of Slovenia was third.Vonn has had two knee operations in two years, and this was the second straight season she began her comeback at the Lake Louise World Cup. This return looks more promising from a year ago.It meant a lot to have worked so hard for so long and to finally be back in a position where Im contending every race, Vonn said Sunday. Thats more than I could have hoped for.Vonns downhill victory Saturday was her first since Jan. 26, 2013. She tore two ligaments and broke a bone in her right leg a month later while racing super-G at the world championships.More ligament damage before her arrival in Lake Louise last year limited her to just four starts. Another surgery in January sidelined her again. With a career 60 World Cup victories, Vonn is two away from matching the womens record of 62 held by Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria. The four-time overall World Cup champion and first American woman to win Olympic downhill gold in 2010 will return to Colorado to catch up with speed training she missed this fall. Vonn didnt get back on snoow until Oct.

. 1.I have a lot of speed races left in the season, so now I have the confidence I need, Vonn said. Hopefully by the next race, Ill be guns ablazing and ready to really put down some good super-G runs.Vonn finished just under four-tenths of a second behind Gut, who claimed her second super-G win in as many years at Lake Louise.Gut didnt make the top 10 in downhill races Friday or Saturday, but set a blistering pace Sunday in 1 minute, 18.46 seconds.Downhill is something that is complicated for me in Lake Louise. Its always a fight, Gut said. Super-g is way more fun for me. I would love if we raced two super-G and just one downhill here, but its not going to happen. After winning the first downhill of the season Friday, Maze looked unhappy with 10th the next day. The reigning Olympic champion in downhill and giant slalom was smiling again after the super-G.That was quite a shock yesterday, said Maze, who is tied with Vonn for first in the overall downhill standings. I had a lot of adrenalin in my blood.I still have something to do in super-G, but Im really happy with my skiing. Coming here in Lake Louise, I had a big wish to win here once and it happened.Coming up is a giant slalom Friday and slalom Saturday Are, Sweden. The next World Cup womens downhill is Dec. 20-21 in Val-dIsere, France.
